Abstract
What happens when the demand exceeds the supply of beds available to patients whose pathophysiologic problems place them all equally in need of the expertise of the critical care nurse? How does one make a decision about the allocation of beds? Through a situation which frequently occurs, the author explores possible solutions to this dilemma, using a framework of ethical theories useful in both adult and neonatal critical care areas.
