Abstract

The results of a study concerning the importance of historic sites as visitor attractions are discussed in this article. This study demonstrated that U. S. historic sites are important visitor attractions but that accurate data concerning visitation often are not available and that a national data base is needed. From available data it was estimated that U.S. historic sites annually host at least 76 million visitors.
