Possible Female-to-Female Transmission of Human Immunodeficiency Virus

A case of the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) in a lesbian without any recognized risk factors was reported in 1984 and is reported to be consistent with that observation.

Consistent with that observation, we report the apparent female-to-female sexual transmission of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).Patient 1, a 25-year-old white woman and a parenteral drug abuser, presented in November 1981 with unexplained weight loss. She had cervical lymphadenopathy and subsequently became chronically ill and developed anergy to skin-test antigens.
