Abstract
Q@j > _ X _ UANDARIIES ... vexing dilemmas ... seemingly inevitable conflicts. The first year in any new job is demanding, but for first year teachers the stresses and tensions seem particularly daunting. Many end up feeling the kind of desper ation expressed by one first-year teach er: feel really young and naive right now. I do not want to lose my idealism, but I feel it being squelched and my atti tude becoming cynical. Help! The need for help was expressed by an other beginning teacher, who was dis cussing a difficult class of junior and sen ior boys:
