Abstract
This research proposes a scheme for learning state evaluation functions for heuristic search problem solving systems. The proposed scheme employs both empirical and analytical learning techniques. Characterizations of states which are n=l,2,… steps from the goal are learned. These characterizations are then used to define a state evaluation function.
