Abstract

A survey of faculty members at a large research university examined their perceptions of the implications of childbirth and institutional leave policies on tenure and promotion. While faculty members expressed approval of institutions providing leaves, women faculty were notably reluctant to take advantage of them. Policy implications from these data are discussed.
