Abstract
This article examines the discussions at the Workshop on Measuring Health Behaviour and Health: towards New Health Promotion Indicators centred on the main areas of health promotion: reviewing the state of the art in the field of health promotion indicators, clarifying problems with current health indicators, and helping to establish a network of institutions and individuals active in health indicator development. The Berne Workshop revealed the differences in opinions on health promotion indicators and concluded that the present state of the art in the field was quite unsatisfactory. The author 1 concludes by setting out six specific recommendations for the improvement of the current situation.
