Abstract
Interpretive reporting attempts to prevent “information overload’’ by converting laboratory test results into information, that is, by placing raw data into a clinical context. The laboratory must know why tests have been requested in order to produce a report that will answer a clinician’s specific questions. The capabilities and limitations of interpretive reports are analyzed.
