Abstract
Abstract This entry reviews the historic background for the diagnoses of antisocial personality disorder and psychopathy along with modern conceptions of these disorders and empirical findings pertaining to their correlates and causes. In doing so, the entry discusses these clinical conditions in relation to a broader integrative model of impulse control disorders that encompasses substance‐related problems along with impulsive sensation‐seeking tendencies and aggressive behavior of differing types. Approaches to prevention and treatment of these conditions are also reviewed.
