Abstract
The British procedures for dealing with doctors with psychiatric illness are being reassessed. A review confirms that doctors are especially prone to drug dependence and suicide, and that these predispositions are shared by their wives and by the paramedical professions. Doctors often make extremely difficult patients, but whether the practice of medicine or of any particular specialty increases the risk of mental illness remains in dispute.
