There are signs of hope for improving Indigenous health, both in the community-controlled and in mainstream services striving for culturally appropriate care.
Abstract
It is now unusual to grow old as an Aboriginal person in Australia. Babies are born at risk, into communities of ill health, pervaded by poverty, domestic violence, substance abuse and crime. Indigenous health status in Australia now lags far behind that of non- Indigenous Australians. How can this be, when the rest of the population is among the world's healthiest? There are signs of hope for improving Indigenous health, both in the community-controlled and in mainstream services striving for culturally appropriate care. (non- author abstract)
