Abstract
I have read and re-read the August 2001 letter to the editor from Richard D. Manuel of Columbus, OH. My reason for re-reading his letter is that it is so simple and to the point. While I do not believe that price is always a major concern to our patients, many times it does become an issue. I also believe the manufacturers need to address this problem immediately. There seem to be two ways to address this problem: Reduce the return rate to a level below 10%. Improve the quality of their present instruments instead of spending so much time and money on technologic advancements that normally don't work with the initial product offering. The industry needs to get in touch with its patients and not each other's latest and greatest new mousetrap. Listen to the ultimate consumer—not each other. CHARLES L.
