Abstract

Children are aware of money from an early age. Most nursery age children will already have heard phrases such as ‘costs too much’, ‘can't afford it’, ‘not got enough pennies’. They see payment being made with coins, pieces of paper (cheques) and plastic cards. The cost of articles is displayed, money is received for birthdays and going shopping is a regular occurrence.
