Abstract
I conducted exploratory research that examined the relationships between psychological and behavioral attributes and charismatic leadership emergence in nascent leaders using a leadership service-learning project to provide the supportive context and tested hypotheses using partial least squares. Fully 45.1% of the variance in charismatic leadership emergence was explained by the psychological and behavioral attribute constructs. I found emotional intelligence and individual and collective behavioral attributes to be significantly related to charismatic leadership emergence in developing leaders. Contrary to expectations, the collective behavioral attributes construct was negatively related to their expected emergence, suggesting the collective influence of the group and any shared leader behaviors may actually work against the emergence of the charismatic leader.
