Re-examination of all available types of evidence indicates that remnants of only one extensive pre-Pleistocene old-age surface are present. This surface probably reached its maximum development in late Pliocene or early Pleistocene. Uplifts initiated in late Pliocene or early Pleistocene accelerated erosional processes which resulted in deep dissection of the uplifted surface during later Pleistocene to produce the modern canyons and valleys.
