Abstract
Four cases of clinical hepatitis confirmed by biological and pathological examination are documented. In all cases, West Nile virus was isolated from blood and liver biopsies. Two patients died, while 2 others recovered. This is the first report on West Nile virus involvement in fatal acute hepatitis. Quatre cas humains d'hépatite, confirmés par l'examen clinique, biologique et anatomopathologique, sont rapportés. Chez chacun des quatre patients, le virus West Nile a été isolé à partir du sérum et de biopsies hépatiques. L'évolution de la maladie a été mortelle pour 2 patients, cependant que les deux autres ont guéri. Il s'agit des premiers cas d'infection mortelle par ce virus, qui est habituellement responsable de tableaux cliniques sans gravité.
