Abstract

This chapter reviews the epidemiology, pathophysiology, and treatment of HIV in relation to psychoneuroimmunology. It presents an empirically testable theoretical model showing how specific biopsychosocial factors may affect immunity and health outcomes among individuals living with HIV, before reviewing of some of the most seminal empirical research to date in the psychoneuroimmunology of HIV infection, and suggesting several directions for future research.
