Abstract
Statistical studies show that 90 per cent of the American public is informed about the need for preventive dentistry and that about half that number seek the treatment that their education tells them they should have. The study of motivation in relation to denture treatment is extremely complex. An individual's attitudes depend to a considerable degree on his knowledge, and his motivated behavior is a function of both his knowledge and his attitudes.Motivation in denture treatment is both positive and negative in nature. The patient may be motivated to have dentures constructed or he may be motivated away from this treatment.Other motives may both conflict and compete with the motives concerning denture treatment. The patient may be motivated to adjust to his completed dentures or he may be motivated to maladjust to them.
