TL;DR

It is shown that by switching on a certain boundary interaction, conformal invariance is restored in a Dirichlet branes background and an immediate application is to two-dimensional string theory.

Abstract

Dirichlet-branes have emerged as important objects in studying\nnonperturbative string theory. It is important to generalize these objects to\nmore general backgrounds other than the usual flat background. The simplest\ncase is the linear dilaton condensate. The usual Dirichlet boundary condition\nviolates conformal invariance in such a background. We show that by switching\non a certain boundary interaction, conformal invariance is restored. An\nimmediate application of this result is to two dimensional string theory.\n
