Abstract
The present paper is mainly expository, giving a review of Nonlinear Iterative PArtial Least Squares (NIPALS) modelling, an approach of general scope for cause-effect inference and prediction. What is new in the paper should lie in the arrangement of the material and in the emphasis on the explicit definition of latent variables that is a characteristic feature of NIPALS modelling.
