Abstract

The propagation and interaction of light in the two-dimensional optical superlattice, a two-dimensional periodically modulated medium, were investigated by the dynamical theory with the four-wave approximation, which is based on an incident beam that satisfies Bragg conditions in two orthogonal directions. The excited fields and the intensities of exiting waves in the two-dimensional optical superlattice were calculated. The relation between relative intensities of the exiting waves and angular deviation of the incident beam as well as the index-modulated parameters of the superlattice was obtained. Also discussed are possible applications of the superlattices in optical communications.
