Breaking of supersymmetry at intermediate energy

Abstract

We consider the proposal that supersymmetry is broken at a scale $\ensuremath{\mu}$ midway between the Planck scale $M$ and the usual weak scale. We show how a phenomenological explicitly softly broken supersymmetric theory can emerge below scale $\ensuremath{\mu}$. The characteristic scale for the explicit supersymmetry breaking is of order $\frac{\ensuremath{\alpha}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{2}}{M}$. Identifying this with the weak scale \ensuremath{\sim}250 GeV gives $\ensuremath{\mu}\ensuremath{\sim}{10}^{12}$ GeV.
