Abstract

AT the suggestion of Prof. Linus Pauling, we have undertaken a structural study of the high-pressure polymorphs of ice. Besides their intrinsic interest, bearing upon the relative stability of different crystalline arrangements under varying conditions of temperature and pressure, the results of this work will be pertinent, it is expected, to the structure of liquid water and to the energetics of the hydrogen bond.
