Abstract

In two preliminary communications (1952 a, b) we have described the chromatophorotropic effect of ACTH, which can be demonstrated by a characteristic change in colour of the tree frog, Hyla arborea. Our work has been confirmed independently by Johnsson & Högberg (1952). Our study was concerned with the melanogenic effect of ACTH in the human body. There are three conditions in the human subject which are characterized by melanoderma, and in which there is an overproduction of ACTH.
