least in some adult vertebrates (not specified), olfactory nerves are routinely replaced by basal cells of the olfactory epithelium, thus making them unique among neurons which are believed not to be normally replaced.A summary is provided which clearly outlines the extent of our present knowledge of olfactory mucosa and points the way to further useful research.The chapter ends with a bibliography and 25 figuies.Professor Friedmann, who edited this book, is to be congratulated on collating a large amount of information and presenting it logically and lucidly in one volume.Criticisms of the book are few, and minor typographical errors in no way spoil the presentation.There is little doubt that this book will find its way on to the shelves of many libraries dealing with the Biological Sciences and it can be highly recommended to those interested in the specialized topics dealt with in the text.
