Abstract
A detailed structure for Tussah silk fibroin has been derived which is in agreement with the X-ray diffraction data.The structure is similar to that of Bombyx mori fibroin in that it is based on antiparallel-chain pleated sheets; the method of packing of the sheets, however, is quite different.This difference in packing can be explained on the basis of the chemical compositions of the two silks.It seems highly probable that the structure of the fl (stretched) form of poly-T.-alanine is essentially that derived for Tussah silk.
