An attempt was made to isolate strains of polymorphic trypanosomes from wild animals in two areas of endemic T. rhodesiense sleeping sickness in Tanganyika by the subinoculation of blood into rats, with results suggesting that the true incidence is higher because cryptic infections can be missed.
