Abstract

The tourism and hotel industries will soon experience the effects of a new megatrend characterized by the growing merger between international tourism and international ecotourism. The definition and implementation of the quality of the tourism product will acquire distinctive ecological dimensions. Fiji faces an unprecedented opportunity to integrate the uniqueness and diversity of its heritage assets into a high-quality 'ecoproduct' and to benefit from a masterplan in which conservation, hospitality and quality would reinforce each other. This article proposes planning, design and management approaches that could transform the Fijian archipelago into a prototype of an international 'eco'tourism destination of the future
