Abstract
\n A significant number of companies are re-engineering their business\n to be more effective and productive. Consequently, existing\n applications must be modified, and new applications must be written.\n The new applications typically run in a distributed and\n heterogeneous environment, performing single tasks in parallel, and\n demanding special transaction functionality for the supporting\n environments. Workflow-based applications offer this type of\n capability. In this paper, their principal advantages are derived\n and set in context to transaction, object, and CASE\n (computer-assisted software engineering) technology. In particular,\n a method is proposed to develop these workflow-based applications in\n a cohesive and consistent way.\n
