Abstract

This article examines the phenomenon of incentive travel and gives insight into its use by major U.S. corporations. A survey of Fortune 1000 comapnies and their use of incentives-especially incentive travel-is the basis of the paper. The results show that travel is a common incentive tool used by 40% of the sample companies. Characteristics of incentive travel are discussed and differences between users and non-users of incentive travel are identified. The results show that corporations with strong national or international presence, and those having a large in-house corporate travel department are more likely to use incentive travel.
