Interrelationships among Manifest Anxiety, Extraversion and Neuroticism under Two Scoring Conditions

Abstract

83 undergraduates at the University of Texas (Austin) were administered two forms of the Manifest Anxiety Scale, Neuroticism, and Extraversion scales. One form called for traditional true/false responses; the other, responses along a 6-point continuum. Correlations were obtained across and within scoring conditions. Results largely confirm those reported by Bendig. As with Bendig's study, a significant relationship was found between Extraversion and Neuroticism, contrary to Eysenck's original thesis.
