Abstract

Our primary objective was to develop a scale to measure self-regulation failure in educational settings. We identified eight factors that were extracted from literature. Then we collected data on respondents’ gender, institution, academic year, and academic probation. To gather this data, a survey sampling was conducted through random sampling to measure the eight factors using 22 items. We received 922 responses, 901(97.7%) of which were valid. The data were analyzed using SPSS and AMOS. The results revealed six factors. These are procrastination, inability to transcendence, misregulation, gratification delay, laziness, and psychic cost. The study opens a window for a more focused research on factors that contribute to the construct of self-regulation failure. The scale is designed mainly for the use at educational settings; however, the scale can be adapted to be used in other fields.
