Abstract

Thomas Saaty was a pioneers in the field of Operations Research. He authored the first Mathematical Methods of Operations Research textbook and the first queueing textbook.Saaty stated later in his life that his experience while working for the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency during the 1960s engendered two critical observations. The first observation was the disparity between the abstract mathematical models of the scientists and the empirical need to trade weapon systems in treaties. The second observation was that neither the lawyers, nor the scientist, appeared to have a superior ability to access the value of a particular weapon system, though they used completely disparate methodologies.
