Abstract

Career decision making is a continuous process across the lifespan and is consequential for organizations that care about developing talent. In this chapter, we review research on career decision making and provide recommendations for future research. In particular, we recommend directions for research on decision making environments and heuristic-based decision making. Such paths require methods that capture decision making processes and information as they occur in real-time. By doing so, researchers can unpack the different ways people make sense of uncertain career environments and the role of heuristics in decision making.
