Abstract

Absolute cross sections for mutual neutralization of He+/O- and Na+/O- ions have been measured by a merged beam technique for interaction energies between 1.2 and 500 eV, and 0.6 and 330 eV respectively. The results for Na+/O- are in excellent agreement with inclined beam measurements by Peart and Foster (1987) in the overlapping range of energies. At interaction speeds greater than about 2*105 m s-1, results for He+/O-, Na+/O-, O+/O- and N+/O- appear to converge.
