Abstract
A plea is made not to devalue the biological sciences at a time when a majority of nurses are drawing heavily from biological knowledge to provide increasingly complex care to increasingly sicker clients. Benefits of reemphasizing the biological sciences in nursing are that this knowledge would (a) advance nursing science and research by providing theories that are verifiable, (b) provide concepts separate from phenomena of interest to social and behavioral scientists, and (c) provide essential knowledge on which to base practice, thus helping to bridge the research/practice gap.
