Abstract
Two aspects of the technique of cluster analysis are considered. One is the choice of a dissimilarity coefficient (DC) between two populations and the other is the method of forming clusters which may be distinct or overlapping. A review is made of various DCs which are currently being used and their relative merits are discussed. Some methods of cluster analysis appropriate for studying race mixture are proposed and applied to the measurements collected on castes and tribes in two large scale anthropometrie surveys in India.
