Hobson here draws together arguments from ethics, politics and economics in an attempt to lay the foundation of a general science of human welfare. In doing so he explores themes which have remained at the centre of political and economic debate over the course of the 20th century. The republication of this work of early 20th-century social criticism makes it available to the modern reader. It is a volume which should be of interest to modern ethical, political and social theorists, as well to students of the history of ideas.
