Abstract
This chapter provides an introduction to this volume, structures the different contributions, and provides a summary of each of the chapters, highlighting what we consider to be the most important contributions and issues. The phases of emergency preparedness and response are reviewed, as is the issue of appropriate research methodology for evaluating new types of emergency management information systems.
