Abstract

This study identified the numerous and diverse professional journals used by social work scholars to disseminate knowledge. An analysis of the vitae of 202 scholars revealed that they published more than 5,000 articles in social work and non-social work journals during their careers. The majority of the social work articles were published in a few well-known periodicals and reflected six patterns of publication. Non-social work articles, which constituted more than 40 percent of the articles, were published in more than 700 journals. Implications for continuing research and social work knowledge building are identified.
