Abstract

Viewed in their entirety, the chapters in this volume confirm earlier hypotheses1–5 that tectonic uplift has played a prominent role in climatic change during the Cenozoic. This chapter synthesizes evidence published in this volume, supplemented by other publications in recent years, to update the status of the uplift-climate hypotheses. It also incorporates criticisms of the hypotheses and integrates relevant information from meterological, climatological, geomorphic, and sedimentological sources.
