Abstract
This chapter is concerned with the complex interrelationships and with the particular contributions and skills required of the effective personnel manager. It will explore the critical importance of senior managements' beliefs about people and the style of management which they themselves practise and propagate. It will examine the 'processes' which need to be established to gain managers' commitment to some of the necessary longer-term people developments. It will look at the complex management development process, and at the development of an effective personnel team.
