Abstract
Comparisons of ultimatum game results elicited using the strategy vector method against results from sequential decision protocol and recommended play treatments show little difference between methods. This result has implications for the innateness of "other-regarding behavior" and experimental methods.

It is found that subjects who exhibit more self-regarding behavior on their first decisions are less likely to change choices between their first and second decisions, and the use of the Strategy Method in this setting does not significantly alter choices.

The study provides evidence about the importance of physical temporal ordering for real life economic decisions by studying sequential battle-of-sexes games where it predicts an unannounced commitment to a weakly dominated strategy and a class of 2×2 games with unique equilibria where it even predicts non-equilibrium behavior.
