Abstract
Consumer responses to time pressure are examined in the\ncontext of mortgage foreclosure. The study presents the\nresults of depth interviews with homeowners in foreclosure, yielding\ndescriptive data relevant to both behavioral and affective\nresponses. Themes relate to the experience of foreclosure time\npressure, responses that exacerbate time pressure, and decision\nmaking under time pressure. A classification of responses is\npresented, with responses suggested to be contingent upon the\ndegree or intensity of both objective time pressure (clock/calendar\ntime) and subjective time pressure (perceived urgency). In general,\na curvilinear relationship between time pressure and productivity is\ninferred.
