Abstract

Ocean Cruises have been almost neglected in tourism research until recently, when tourism geographers have begun debating on the sustainability factor in cruise tourism. It is indeed questionable that this form of tourism, occurring in two-thirds of the extra terrestrial realm, should have escaped pertinent scholastic investigations like—Are they really as harmless, as it appears? Do they promise a sustainable form of large tourist movements—perhaps "softer" option on land? So far sea-cruises constitute just a minor share of international tourism, while accounting for less than one per cent in Europe, thereby explaining for the academic neglect by geographers. This unpardonable negligence, on the part of tourism geographers, simply reflects their inability to perceive sea going tourism in the geographical perspective of space.
