Abstract

The presently known risk factors are assessed as examples of epidemiologic proof. The studies that led to their identification are briefly reviewed. The basis for uncertainty in recommending preventive measures to young persons is examined along with the factors that bespeak the need for prevention. This paper attempts to provide a rational basis upon which specific therapy can be based. It does not present a therapeutic regimen for general prescription or adoption.
