Abstract
Mothers with extended body contact with their babies immediately after delivery showed more tactual contacts with their newborns when observed during the first week after parturition than mothers who had been exposed to ordinary hospital routine. These group differences could not be observed five weeks later. No other types of behavior seemed to be affected by extended body contact.
