Abstract
The handbook was prepared as part of Natural Resources Canada's mandate to expand Canada's commitment to improving energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gases (GHGs). A statistical overview of Canada's sectoral energy market was provided. GHG emissions statistics were presented for analytical purposes. Data were presented for 1990, and 1998 to 2004 for all sectors, including the residential; commercial and institutional; industrial; transportation; and electricity generation sectors. Aggregate energy data were based on Statistics Canada's report on energy supply and demand balance in Canada. GHG emissions data were estimated using Environment Canada's emissions factors. Energy models and databases for each sector of the Canadian economy were used to assess trends in energy use in the Canadian economy. The data handbook was intended as a companion to the Office of Energy Use's Energy Efficiency Trends in Canada handbook. refs., tabs., figs.
