Abstract
Space and place are habitually used in tourism literature, yet frequently merge as one, general 'thing'. In this chapter I bring to the fore rich themes of debate concerning space and place, and culture. In the first section, rather than 'fix' space and/or place, I invite engagement with these ideas, avoid narrow definition and recommend consideration of meaning. Second, I include landscape, another familiar term that tends to presume its reference point in tourism work, to bear on the discussion of space. Third, these unravelled 'certainties' are brought directly into our thinking concerning cultural tourism in a way that seeks to engage in the complexity and fluidity, the multiple sites of 'doing tourism'.
