The birth weight of infants from five rural areas of Queensland are reported and compared with geographical location and ethnic origin of parents. Among the Aboriginal infants, birth weights vary according to location, with the lightest being found in the northernmost section of Cape York. Aboriginal infants were lighter than non‐Aboriginals from the same area. It is postulated that these differences are affected by the degree of antenatal care.
